Dellwood Day 4

Well it is Day 4 and it is coming to a close. We started out driving instead of riding the bus. I just couldn't do it!    We were running a little late but we made it by flag.

We unloaded and got to flag. We were in charge of the flag ceremony this morning. The girls did a great job. Grace had the job of saying,

"Color guard attention."

Sarah said, "Girl Scouts join me in the Pledge of Allegiance. "    They all did a great job.

We then went to the lodge and did some games related to the Survivor theme. We played KIM'S game. We also learned about mess kits and Girl Scout language. Then it was off to the pool.
The girls learned about water survival at the pool. They learned about saving people who are drowning and about staying warm in the water if the water was close.  The girls looked like little fish swimming together in the pool.

They enjoyed the swim.

We headed to the unit.

DELLWOOD DAY 3

June 19, 2013
Today is day 3 and I'm happy I'm bringing Sarah home with me  we have missed her!   Today was a lot of fun. We started out with flag and then went directly to the Math and Science Center via the trails in the woods to give the girla the opportunity to do some "hiking."   The Math and Science Center was all about the Water Cycle. The first activity the girls did was to go to a picture of a type of water on the wall and they got a pony bead for their bracelet. Then they rolled a dice. Some of the types of water were glacier, ocean,  lakes, rivers, and ground water. Each station gave the girls a different color bead. It was a great activity. Then we saw the raingarden outside the Center. It helps to clean the rain water. Apparently the Children's Museum has a raingarden on its roof.     So then the girls came in and split into groups and did three different activities. One was learning about the watershed and how what we put into the environment affects the water.   Another activity was learning about erosion. The last activity was making an edible raingarden. All of these activities could be easily duplicated and could be used for our WOW Wonders of Water Journey.

We then got our picture taken, had lunch, practiced for flag and swam. Then it was off to crafts.   We made our standard picture frame and our God's Eye. Then flag and now we are heading back home. We are almost to Hawthorne. Thank goodness!  I think I will drive tomorrow. As much as I hate to spend the gas money, I hate even more to be in this loud uncomfortable bus. It will be a good change. :)  Tomorrow is the sleepover!

Today was a pretty laid back day but we did a LOT. I was very happy to see Sarah after she spent the night at Gammy and Papa's house with Grace.

We went from the flag to Pinelot where we learned to pitch tents. The girla did a great job of this. They got to pitch pink pup tents and Sarah and Grace even helped to pitch a large green "round up tent" which was not to easy to get up.

After that it was time to swim. I dove in the pool because the girls wanted to see me go off the diving board. The water was pretty chilly!!!
It ended up feeling pretty good.

Then we got changed and headed to our unit to eat. I decided that I would go through the badge book so that we could figure out what badges they could earn.   So we started out by working on the Senses badge while eating lunch and the Hiking badge while walking from Sleepy Hollow to the program center.   We are also going to try to work on the Making Friends badge and the Girl Scout Way. We may even work on First Aid and Bugs for the girls who haven't earned those badges.

After lunch we headed to PC to learn about maps and compasses. They played a game with a lifesized compass and then we walked around with directions for the compasses trying to follow the correct directions. We did  OK. I don't think we were exactly correct but we did OK.

After that we made edible fire which entailed us making a fire circle with cheerios and marshmallows. Then we made logs out of big pretzels,  twigs were small pretzels, potato sticks were the kindling. Then we added twizzlers for the fire and we ate them up.

It was then time for flag and it was time to head home. I'm so glad thay Sarah has not had to deal with the misery of the bus. We are waiting at Old Bethel for one little girl to get picked up.  It's hot and I'm very tired and we are 5 minutes for our stop.
Happy day other than the bus.

Today was a good day but it is very weird to not have Sarah with me on the bus going home. It is also weird to be driving down 38th street to get home. I have not been happy with the bus situation. Oh well. I didn't let it ruin my day.   We started out with the bus being late and heading out over 30 minutes late. Then we took the most interesting route to get to Camp Dellwood. But again, I didn't let it ruin my day. We got to flag with a few minutes to spare. Then after flag we headed to our unit to check out our tents. After that we walked to crafts and made a cool bracelet and a bandana.   Then lunch at the pool. That was different from last year. This year most of our meals will not be served at the lodge. I like that. It is a lot less clean up and we don't have to worry about being late to lunch. After lunch we learned about lashing twine to trees to create tables, shelves,  clotheslines and other things in the woods.    Then it was finally time to swim. The girls were very excited about that part!  Then a snack, flag and we headed home. Sarah is staying with Dad and Sharon tonight. She is excited but was nervous about having to wait with Grace and not  having me with her. But I'm sure that it will all be fine. I have Lilly and Janee with me and Janee is asleep. Lilly said that her favorite thing was swimming. Janee said her favorite was jumping off the diving board. Tomorrow will be another fun day!
